A site that updates itself will sometimes be wrong. The proposition is that it can be checked afterwards — so this page only ever grows.
The standing policy
- A corrected article is fixed on the page and entered below, with what it said, what it says now, and why. The entry is committed to the site's source alongside the fix, so the two cannot drift.
- A retracted wire post is never deleted. It stays on the news river in place, struck through, with the correction beside it. Deleting is what a site does when it hopes nobody screenshotted it.
- A status is never quietly changed. A country that moves from confirmed back to awaiting confirmation keeps its sources and its history on its own page; the change is a new event, not an edit.
- Rumours are not corrections. Something reported on the wire that does not come true was labelled “reported” or “unverified” when it was posted. The label was the point; only a post that was stated as fact and was wrong is retracted.
