Sofia Airport (SOF) is the main international gateway, with direct connections across Europe. Burgas Airport (BOJ) serves the Black Sea coast and runs heavily seasonal schedules — far busier in summer. If the contest lands in Burgas, expect most international arrivals to route through Sofia and connect onward by road or rail.
Sofia has a clean, cheap metro running to the airport, plus trams and buses. Bulgaria uses the lev (BGN). Contactless cards are widely accepted in cities; carry some cash for smaller venues and taxis. Use marked taxi companies or an app rather than hailing at ranks near tourist sites.
Book early. Eurovision reliably distorts accommodation pricing in the host city for the fortnight around the contest. If you are flexible, staying one metro or bus zone out is usually dramatically cheaper and adds very little travel time.
Shopska salad, banitsa for breakfast, kavarma, and grilled kebapche. Bulgarian wine is seriously underrated — look for Melnik and Mavrud reds. Ayran or a cold Kamenitza with anything grilled.
Rila Monastery is a straightforward day trip from Sofia and genuinely worth the early start. Plovdiv — one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe — is about two hours from Sofia. On the coast, Nesebar's old town is a short hop from Burgas.
Bulgarian, written in Cyrillic. English is common among younger people and in city centres. One genuinely useful warning: a head shake often means yes and a nod can mean no. It catches out almost every visitor at least once.
Tickets are not on sale and no on-sale date exists yet — the host city hasn't even been named. Tickets are always sold through the official Eurovision channels and the host broadcaster. Anyone selling Eurovision 2027 tickets today is not selling you a real ticket.

Eurovision 2027 will be held in Bulgaria. Bulgaria earned hosting rights by winning the 2026 contest with "Bangaranga" by Dara. The host city is Burgas.
The semi-finals are on Tuesday, 11 May 2027 and Thursday, 13 May 2027, and the Grand Final is on Saturday, 15 May 2027, at Arena Burgas in Burgas. The EBU and BNT confirmed the dates on 13 August 2026.
