Supernova: how Latvia picks its Eurovision entry

Latvia settled its 2027 participation in July, and the way it will choose its song already has a reported date. This is what is known about Supernova, what has been reported for 2027, and what Latvia's record looks like when the song gets to Burgas.

Latvia went to confirmed on this site's tracker on 24 July 2026. Confirmed here means what it means everywhere on this site: at least two independent outlets reported the broadcaster's decision as fact, not one outlet and a Wikipedia table. The broadcaster is LTV, Latvia's public television, and it is the broadcaster — not the country, not a ministry — that enters, pays and chooses.

What Supernova is

Supernova is LTV's national final: a televised selection in which the entry is chosen in front of the public rather than picked inside the broadcaster. Most countries that run a national final do something of the kind; the differences are in how many nights it takes, how many songs compete and how the winner is decided. For 2027 the first of those is settled, the third is settled in outline, and the second has not been announced.

The 2027 format: one night, 6 February (reported)

Eurovisionfun reported on 24 July 2026 that Supernova 2027 will be a one-night final with a super-final at Xiaomi Arena on 6 February 2027. LTV's own page is not cited for it here, so this page carries the date as reported rather than announced. A super-final is a second round on the same night: the full field performs, the field is cut, and the winner is decided among the entries that survive the cut. How many get through, and how the votes are weighted at each stage, are not in what has been reported so far.

One night in an arena is worth noting for the calendar. It puts Latvia's song on the record in early February, before Sanremo, reported for 16 to 20 February, and more than three months before the first semi-final in Burgas on 11 May. Latvia's entry will exist as a finished thing for a long time before it is performed in competition.

Submissions close 1 October

The songs come first. Submissions to Supernova 2027 close on 1 October 2026, which is the first hard date in Latvia's season and the one that matters to anyone thinking of entering. After that date the pool exists. What happens between then and 6 February — when the competing entries are named, when the songs are released, whether there is anything on television before the final — has not been announced, and it will go on the calendar when it is.

Latvia's record

Latvia first entered in 2000 and won on its third attempt.

That 2002 win is still Latvia's only one. The year after it, Latvia hosted in Riga, at Skonto Hall, and Turkey won. A country that wins early and then waits is a familiar shape in this contest, and the wait is the part Supernova is for: a national final is a broadcaster's way of putting a decision in front of its audience rather than making it alone.

What is not settled for 2027

For Supernova: who is competing, how many entries there are, how the super-final cut works and anything about tickets. None of it has been announced, and this page names no artist until LTV does.

For Eurovision itself: the EBU has announced the dates — the first semi-final on Tuesday 11 May, the second on Thursday 13 May and the grand final on Saturday 15 May 2027 — the venue, Arena Burgas, and six preview shows between 10 and 15 May. The rules for 2027, the allocation draw and the participant list have not been published. Which semi-final Latvia performs in is decided by that draw, and the EBU has not announced its date.
